Nedo Rinpoche

The Venerable Nedo Kuchung Rinpoche is the sixth reincarnation in the supreme Nedo Kuchung lineage. The present Nedo Kuchung Rinpoche was born on August 2, 1962. At the age of ten, H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, recognized him as the incarnation of Shedrub Nyedun Chokyi Sengge, the former Nedo Rinpoche, and gave him the name Karma Thinley Yongdu Kunchab Palzangpo. In the same year, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche formally recognized him and offered him the robes and his title. Rinpoche’s main teachers were H.H. the 16th Karmapa, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Venerable Riwa Saljay Rinpoche, and Venerable Urgyen Tulku. H.H. the 16th Karmapa sent Nedo Rinpoche to Ladakh to learn the Karma Kagyu rituals. In 1982, at the age of twenty-three, he went back to Rumtek Monastery to join a retreat for three years and eight months. At the age of twenty-five, coming out of his successful retreat, he was appointed as the Vajra Master of the main monastery of the 16th Karmapa in Rumtek and has carried out this function since that time. Today, Nedo Rinpoche is the main Vajra Master of H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje. Nedo Rinpoche is currently responsible for the monks of both the 16th Karmapa and of Shamar Rinpoche as well as for the dharma activity of the Karma Kagyu lineage in Sikkim. He also takes care of his lineage monasteries in Sikkim, as well as in Kham, Tibet.

Following a Mahakala initiation by His Holiness (H.H.) the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje in Karma Guen in August 2017, Nedo Rinpoche, the main Vajra Master of H.H. the 17th Karmapa, was asked to speak on the subject of protectors, powerfully protective wisdom aspects that express active compassion.
